Iowa Legal Aid assists domestic abuse victim
An Iowa Legal Aid attorney re
cently assisted a victim of domestic violence in obtaining restraining order and custody decree.
After obtaining a protective order, to protect the victim and her children, the abuser filed for custody of their children. Iowa legal Aid further assisted the client in the custody action, ensuring that custody of children was granted to her.
She said, “I was so concerned about my children. I just want to keep them safe.”
The victim had endured physical abuse and had no other place to turn. The abuser did not let her work outside the home and she had no money to pay for an attorney.
The Iowa Legal Aid attorney expended 71 hours assisting this client in North Lee County due in part to the support that United Way provides.
