Fort Madison Area United Way will once again host its Celebrity Go-Cart race as part of it Annual Fundraising Campaign on Thursday, April 29, 2010 at Hillside Go Carts in Fort Madison.
“The idea behind the go-cart races is to allow area business leaders to enjoy themselves in an competitive arena while also bringing much needed attention to the Fort Madison Area United Way,” says Tara Johnson, volunteer event organizer.
The races will be divided into 6 person 10-lap heats and each racer will have a chance to race in two heats. The combined point totals will determine who advances into the Championship round.
Each racer will have an additional way to advance by utilizing the ‘Race Fans Choice’ containers available to them. Each racer can collect donations before the event or at the event in a container where fans, friends and family can vote with their pocketbook to assist the racer to advance to championship round. The racers with the highest donations will advance to the finals along with the top scores from the first two heats.
The public is invited to attend the race held on Thursday, April 29 at 5:00 p.m. at Hillside Go Carts. The rain date will be the following Tuesday, May 4 in case of inclement weather on the 29th. Spectators should plan to bring their own lawn chairs.
Funds raised in this fundraiser will be attributed to the next United Way campaign and will benefit the 24 member organizations that are funded by United Way along with community projects such as Winterization Coupons, Budget Buddies and Community Directories.
