The Fort Madison Area United Way will kick off their Annual Community Caring Campaign on September 15th in North Lee County. The Campaign will run from September 15 until November 15 and will feature a variety of fundraising activities including employee campaigns at 25 local workplaces, direct mail, small business solicitation, and United Way Week on October 10 – 16.
The campaign this year will focus on the people who make up the Fort Madison Community and care enough for their neighbors, friends, co-workers and neighbors to provide support for the 23 community agencies that partner with United Way to reach out to all ages and income levels for services as diverse as groceries, employment assistance for disabled adults, tutoring for school age children or mentoring for children of single parents. Nearly 30% of adults and over 80% of area children are impacted by one of the partner programs that United Way supports.
Fort Madison Area United Way is locally funded, locally managed, and locally invested. The Caring Campaign raises funds in our local area, local volunteers make up the board of directors who oversee this locally incorporated charitable organization, and the funds raised stay in our community helping area residents with their most pressing needs.
The Campaign this year will receive an added boost with a donor recognition program. Individual donors giving $100 or more will be recognized as part of the Century Club and will be entered in a drawing for a $500 Shopping Spree in Chamber Bucks sponsored by donations from Fort Madison Bank and Trust, Lee County Bank and Trust, Scotts Company, Silgan Containers Manufacturing, and State Central Bank.
The Campaign Chair this year is David Poland who works at Two Rivers Insurance. David expressed his support for the Campaign in this way, “I hope that people who work and live in our fine community will match their caring with their giving and make the best contribution they can this year. Our goal is up 10% this year as more people are accessing services this year and the 23 partner agencies that benefit from the campaign have greater needs.”
Partner agencies that benefit from the fundraising efforts provide annual reports on the results of their programs for local residents and financial reports plus they also have individual interviews with local volunteer investment teams. Funded partners and United Way managed projects include:
