On the day of their Campaign Volunteer Appreciation Celebration(February 19), Fort Madison Area United Way reached our goal of $140,000 in the annual Community Caring Caring Campaign. This was the highest annual campaign income in the last 10 years.
Campaign Highlights
The number of donors increased this year from 705 last year to over 730 and this does not include the hundreds of children who participated in the penny drive or those who donated at an event, participated in Restaurant Week or contributed to a workplace silent auction, raffle or other event.
A total of 73% of the campaign proceeds were from the top 15 workplace campaigns. New workplace campaigns this year were held at Climax Molybdenum and Cryotech De-icing. In addition, Siemen's Energy staff put together a strong campaign to move to the number one spot for employee donations in our area. Dupont once again had the leading workplace campaign as a combined total of employee payroll, events, and corporate donation. Many workplace coordinators put together a great campaign effort to help United Way reach their ambitious goal! Each person and each donation played a significant role in reaching the gola.
This year's campaign incentive drawing for those giving $100 or more was for a local Shopping Spree of $500 and was won by Shirley Edens of Pinnacle Foods. The prize was made possible by Lee County Bank and Trust, Fort Madison Bank & Trust, State Central Bank, and Scotts Company.
The funds raised in the United Way Community Caring Campaign are re-invested back in our community. Over 40 community volunteers will be meeting in March to review applications for funding from 24 member agency programs that provide vital services for every segment of the North Lee County community. Funded programs have to demonstrate that they have program results that align with United Way's community goals United Ways community investment includes annual grants to organizations providing for human service needs in our area, donor designations to local programs, one time grants, and United Way programs such as Budget Buddies, Winterization Coupons, and Community Directories.
